KBC Helmets - Looking After Your KBC Shield

KBC HELMET SHIELD CARE
HELMET SHIELD CARE:
IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL THAT THE SHIELD IS KEPT IN OPTIMUM CONDITION AT ALL TIMES.  DETERIORATION THROUGH SCRATCHES AND ROAD DEBRIS SUCH AS INSECTS AND GENERAL ROAD FILM CAN SERIOUSLY REDUCE CLEAR VISION AND INCREASE TE RISK OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY TO YOURSELF AND OTHER ROAD USERS.

In order to maintain the shield condition you should clean it regularly at fuel stops and while out riding.  Never attempt to clean a KB Helmet shield while riding the motorcycle.

MIRRORED SHIELDS FOR KBC HELMETS:

Due to the technology used in manufacturing mirror or iridium coated shields, these shields scratch or damage more easily than clear shields.  Therefore these shields must be cleaned with even greater care.

KBC HELMET SHIELDS
DARK TINTED, SMOKE, BLACK AND MIRRORED SHIELDS SHOULD NEVER BE USED AT NIGHT OR IN INCLEMENT WEATHER WHERE VISIBILITY IS POOR AS THESE ARE DESIGNED ONLY FOR VERY BRIGHT RIDING CONDITIONS (CHECK THE LEGALITY OF THESE SHIELDS IN YOUR STATE OR COUNTRY AS IN SOME COUNTRIES THESE ARE ILLEGAL)

KBC HELMET SHIELD SYSTEM LUBRICATION:
When servicing your helmet, use a silicone or vaseline (petroleum jelly) in small quantities to provide a small degree of lubrication to moving parts DO NOT PUT IT ON THE SHIELD AS THIS CAN REDUCE CLEAR VISION.
KBC HELMET SHIELD REMOVAL

KBC HELMET SHIELD REMOVAL - KBC VR2, KBC VR3, KBC Force RR, Force S
http://www.kbc-helmet.com/images/tech_remove1.jpgREMOVAL OF SHIELD FROM KBC HELMETS:
All KBC Helmets utilize a very simple and effective shield removal mechanism system.  NO TOOLS ARE REQUIRED.  The shield can be removed and replaced very easily and quickly.  Follow the diagram shown here.  First, open the shield and locate the shield spring pin.  Pull downward on this component to release the mechanism.  The shield will 'pop off' or release very gently.  Repeat on other side for total removal.  To reattach the shield, locate the shields central circular mechanism and push into central spring loaded fixing point on helmet ratchet plate.  Apply moderate pressure to both sides using your hands to latch the shield onto the guide pins.  Then gently close the shield.  Open and close the shield several times to ensure shield is fixed correctly, before using the helmet, as incorrect fixing could cause shield to shear or fall off when riding and could cause an accident.
NOTE: Some KBC helmets share a common shield system. Please ensure any new shield purchased is for the your helmet's system.
Models: VR3, VR2, Force RR, Force S share a shield system.  Models: FFR and TK8 use a different system.  AR1 (Racer-1) and TK77 also use a different system

KBC HELMET SHIELD SEALING:
Your helmet is designed to offer a shield sealing effect to prevent rain and wind penetration.  To ensure this operates efficiently, make sure the shield ratchet system is correctly aligned.  Over time the factory fitting may become loose.  Adjust and tighten ratchet screws or ask your KBC dealer for technical assistance.
