HJC CL15 Helmet Review
Overall the CL15 is an excellent motorcycle helmet, which combines great build quality, comfort & style, along with great value for money. Below of some points that we had noticed on our ride-outs with the CL15.
HCJ Helmet Padding and Vibration -
On my head this helmet feels secure, but not too tight. As you know, we all have different shaped heads, so I would recommend trying the HJC CL15 at a local dealer to see what you think of the fitting.. The chin pads seem to share the load with the head pads, preventing any part from pushing too hard.
As your speed increases, so does the turbulence and buffering caused by the wind. This is increased by air disturbance, which will occur when you ride behind large vehicles. It seems to me that this helmet provides you with pretty minimal buffeting. Because of the aerodynamics involved in the HJC hemet design, the CL15 has less vibration & buffering than some more expensive helmets I could mention.
HJC CL15 Face Shield -
The shield has preset positions that cannot be changed. It is particularly difficult to open the mask from a Fully Closed position with only one hand, as the action tends to move the whole helmet instead of rotating the shield. The hjc shield positions are as follows:
Fully Closed , Cracked , Half Open , Fully Open
The face shield is easy to remove, clean, and reinstall.
HJC Helmet Vents and Air Flow
Good air flow around the helmet is an essential part to keeping comfortable in changing conditions. The CL-15 has a venturi vent in the back, this is fed by two vents in the front. These vents can be shut, half opened, or fully opened. There is also an adjustable vent above the chin to help reduce fogging (closed or open), and two always-open side vents that are claimed to create a vacuum effect to suck away heat and moisture for cold riding conditions.
HJC Helmet Safety and Certifications -
The CL15 helmet has SNELL and DOT certifications. All Street helmets should have a DOT certification, but SNELL is a second certification that a helmet can earn, for which it must undergo a second (and generally considered more stringent) series of independent testing. The construction is sturdy with a solid chin strap, with a moderately reflective finish (may differ with style).
